COM125WEEK2- Usenet still in use

Usenet is a global discussion system that is still widely in use today, similar in appearance to forums. It was thought of in the year 1979 and was put into practice the following year. It is used as a form of discussion, messaging, and file sharing. Its appearance is like one of a bulletin board, though it goes beyond the purpose of simply being a place to post messages as one can also trade or post files on Usenet for others to download.
Usenet is not like the internet we use today. Rather, it was a system of interconnected servers with computers connected to each server. When someone on a computer posted a message to a server, it would then be accessible to the other people connected to that server. People on other servers however, would not be able to access the information until the server it was posted to send it to the next server, and so on.
As mentioned, Usenet was very similar in appearance to forums. This is because Usenet is basically a precursor to the forums that are widely used today. They were very similar, but on a forum, you could only place links to files instead of actually posting them on the server like one could with Usenet. Both Usenet and forums are widely used today, though forums are more popular and will continue to be so because they have a more user-friendly interface and are generally better moderated.
